Most articles about organisational growth focus on external and economic obstacles—funding shortfalls, fierce global competition, the challenges of entering developing markets. But many organisations hinder their own growth. According to research by…
Automation, insights and scalability helped transform this internationally renowned Charity.
In 2016, Cure International, the largest provider of speciality surgical care in the developing world, working closely with the Xledger team implemented Xledger across 29 countries. CURE is the largest provider of specialty surgical care in the developing world. 226,000 surgeries, 10 hospitals and 29 developing countries – the global leader in pediatric interventions and operating in some of the world’s toughest linguistic and regulatory contexts.
Top level challenges to solve:
- lack of sound financial control over muli-national subsidiaries
- ERP platform with multiple bolt-ons
- no insight in remote regions
- inefficient paper based approval processes
CURE’s mission breeds its own complexity – not a lot of companies operate in 29 developing countries for example. For the past 18 years, CURE trusted an overly cumbersome on-premise ERP system to manage hospitals ranging from Afghanistan to the Philippines.
“The challenge was getting information from the developing world into our headquarters. Our business data was coming in 45 to 60 days after”. Added to the limited bandwidth of its service regions, this lag stymied CURE’s efforts to manage exchange rates, inventory and financial reporting.
CURE met with Xledger and after a brief demo of the product announced their approval seeing immediately how the system would bring a much needed business insight to their organisation. “When we brought Xledger into CURE we immediately had our finger on the pulse of our financials. We knew in real-time how much cash we had, how much needed to be transferred.” Xledger provided:
- financial stewardship with insight from segmented reporting on homepage dashboard and enquiry browsers
- system DNA is designed for ease of scalability
- automatic bank reconciliation improves time and resource management
- improved controls with fully integrated accounting platform
- consolidated financial statements across the organisation
In order to have lasting impact on the organisation, the CURE team needed an approach that was aligned with their core organisational values. They also recognised this as an opportunity to empower team members to drive measurable change through much improved business insight.
One of the most beneficial functions for CURE looking forward is instant consolidation. Intercompany eliminations are automatic in the Xledger platform. A complex multinational organisation saves hundreds of accounting man hours by taking the accounting cycle down to minutes instead of days. Real-time data in homepage dashboards give CURE all their data instantly.
As a result of Xledger CURE has:
- sound financial control over multiple entities
- insights into the finances of even the most remote locations
- more money to spend on frontline services
Automation and insight has saved us a lot of money
“Xledger has saved us hundred of thousands of pounds. The true cloud platform enabled real-time data even in the limited bandwidth of CURE locations. Executives sitting at CURE’s headquarters in New Cumberland Pennsylvania USA are able to view payroll and inventory for hospitals across the globe.
Planners can coordinate paperless inventory and arbitrate exchange rates for the best deals. Xledger allowed us to heal more children whereas before we were operating like ten independent hospitals, it enabled us to operate like a network with 10 independent locations.”
